So, you have a free weekend coming up. Would you like to be holed up in a single hotel room – and you’ll wonder why you ever left the city – or swim laps in your private pool and skip around on a lake-facing terrace while a gourmet meal is prepared in your kitchen?
So private pool it is. Oh, there’s also a four-seater jacuzzi and a terrace with a view of the Himalayas, but we’ll come to that later.
Welcome to Saffronstays.com, a luxe vacation home rental service, where a team as charming as their homes, laboriously picks and curates the most gorgeous villas, often just a car ride away from you. We’d like to introduce you first to their luxury villas (the heritage homes you can say hello to in our next segment.)
L’atitude, Kamshet: Leave skyscrapers behind for the open sky at L’atitude, which offers a 360 degree view of nature, as well as a pond and organic vegetable patch on the property. This eclectic three-room eco-villa in Kamshet has been built using wood reclaimed from old temples and dilapidated homes, bricks and stone. The house is built by the charming owner herself, and promises hand-crafted hospitality too. The first floor bedroom with its balcony facing the Andre Lake, wakes you up with the first rays of the sun. The moon rise is even more magical during full moon nights, casting a silver glow all over the shimmering lake.
And this lake view can be enjoyed from your room or from an open deck sit-out for coffee drinkers. You could after all, do with some quiet reflection, and peaceful planning for 2017. We’ve already figured out your #HolidayGoals, now you figure out the rest. Book here.
9 Palms, Alibaug: Mumbai weekenders, this luxury villa is an 18 minute speed boat ferry ride from the Gateway and ten minutes from the Mandwa jetty. Close your eyes, feel the wind in your hair, and imagine six acres of manicured green lawns, garden gazebos, an azure swimming pool, a Jacuzzi, a sports court, and a beach that is five minutes away.
And still, our favourite feature at 9 Palms is the outdoor dining table, that makes us want to rise early for breakfast. See pictures and book here.
9 Palms, Alibaug
Salt Rim, Korlai: Stop looking for a margarita glass and focus on this Salt Rim: a rustic beach-front cottage with a view of the sea from the verandah. If you’re lazy, linger over a beach picnic, and if you’d rather earn your supper, there’s a 45 minute trek at the nearby Korlai fort. Lazy or not, your reward is a Malvani meal cooked by a local chef. See pictures of the secluded two bedroom house and book here.
Bliss, Pune: If you want to set your sights on bigger goals, check into Bliss. A short hour’s drive from Pune, Bliss is spread across four acres, promising stunning interiors, a private pool and a home theatre room, making it ideal for your next movie marathon weekend or just to catch that match you’ve been waiting for.
Outside, the pool has a view of the Sahyadri range, and you also have the option of organising a bird-watching trek to Mulshi Dam, Khadakwasla Dam or Manas Lake, all within close proximity to the villa. Bonus: Spend some time gazing at the owner’s private art collection. See pictures and book here.
Villa 270, Dapoli: Now this one’s a real cliffhanger. No, seriously, Villa 270° is an eco-luxe home nestled in palm trees and perched on the edge of a cliff overlooking the confluence of the river Jog and the Arabian sea. The deck offers a 270 degree panoramic view as you lounge around feasting on local Malvani food, sometimes fresh from the sea! The amenities are fancy, but the house has been thoughtfully constructed using local materials such as old temple wood, village stones, tiles. Dining is on the rooftop, idling is by a lush pond and slumber is saved for three bedrooms named after local flowers - Aboli, Bakul & Jaswanti. Heaven scent! Bonus: The nearby Harnai fishing village means you get to enjoy gifts from the sea, cooked Konkani style. View pictures and book here.
Tridiva, Uttarakhand: This home is the cashmere hug you need during winter. A boutique villa made cozy with fireplaces and frosty with snow-capped views of the Himalayan peaks. The entire Nandadevi range is visible from the terrace, peaks glistening in the sun.
The sleepy town of Talwari hosts this magnificent home surrounded by scenic jungles and apple orchards. In this town, which is also the base camp for several treks including one to Pindari glacier, it is not uncommon to chance upon hidden water bodies. No wonder the streams here gush.
