The Cottons & Satins store at Worli is probably like founder Mala Sapra’s own heart - chambers upholstered in the most luxurious cottons and silks, skipping a beat sometimes for leafy bales or a chair whose back seems to lead up to heaven.
Tucked away in a small lane behind The Four Seasons Hotel at Worli, Cottons & Satins is a 6,000 square feet store designed to look like a green house, lush with rustling silks and plants and light.
Mala is originally from Jaipur, which explains her love for textiles and the store’s original singular business; here you will find bales and bales of fabric in ikat, chevron, floral, leafy and geometric prints. Not only will Cottons & Satins bale you out of any home décor fix, they can also customise your prints colour and fabric for as little as a 10 metre order. No bulk shopping required! We have our eye on a lush fern leaf print which is perfect for bringing that outdoorsy feel inside.
While it’s clear that Cottons & Satins’ textile game is strong, they’ve also started stocking other beautiful things for your home – wall coverings in all kinds of prints; silk cushion covers; luxe rugs; accessories and curios and candles; and a tight edit of furniture. But that’s not all. “Soon our wooden tables will be laid out with crockery imported from various labels as well as a cluster of in-house designs,” Mala tells us, excited about this new vertical, and to plan a table styling workshop to go with the launch.
Plates & Poufs: What We Love
bpb favourites at the Cottons & Satins store include the recent Song of the Swan and Wild Flower collection of wall coverings; abstract print rugs; colour block totes with leather handles; Oriental ceramic lamp shades; and a wooden chair whose disproportionately tall back appears to be like a ladder leading to where the beanstalk went. #ChairPersonGoals
And once you’ve browsed and bought, don’t forget to slip up the spiral staircase where a beautifully styled loft, bed and all, will make you want to stay.
While Mala does have her favourites at the store – she’s leaning towards the crane print at the moment - her most favourite thing is “change”. Which is why you will constantly see new colour and print waves being added to the collection, sometimes as often as every week. “We work closely with artisans in North India, attempting to innovate all the time, and will have our online store up and running in early 2018.”
Happy 1st Birthday!
