Dear reader, we made this for you, with glitter and cloth and love and glue. As Etsy launches in India, we scour their market to find our favourite Indian sellers, presenting them to you in a two month series called Meet the Maker. Prepare your cart (and heart) to meet some of the country’s craftiest #EtsyMadeInIndia makers every week, right here on bpb. PS: If you make interesting things - these can be vintage, handicrafts, clothes, designs or even craft supplies - get in touch with Etsy India to create your own shop; details here.
Hello, Maker: Ruchi Pugalia from Lucknow
Brand: ComfyMommy, a (finally) cool maternity and baby wear brand. Shop here.
bpb Loves: Under The Sea-themed swaddles with matching baby beanies.
What She Loves About Selling On Etsy:The type of customers. They’re polite and always have constructive feedback.
What to expect when you’re expecting? Sack-like maternity dresses in morose colours.
Not if Ruchi Pugalia has anything to do with it. Along with her husband Ayush Rajvanshi - both NID graduates - Ruchi runs a label called ComfyMommy that uses organic cotton to craft maternity dresses, robes and nightwear, plus matching baby swaddles, robes and headbands.

With a surname that’s almost an Italian seaside town – Puglia – we’re not surprised that the Pugalias’ dresses and robes are easy, breezy and often inspired by nautical themes. This is however, just a happy coincidence.
Speaking of happy, turn your attention to ComfyMommy’s maternity dresses, blooming with flowers and with a definitive Kyoto vibe, but also etched with geometric prints. And putting the “awww” in awesome are the matching mom-baby robes and the under-the-sea printed swaddles with matching baby beanies.
Prior to starting Comfy Mommy in 2014, Ruchi used assist filmmakers and has worked the sets of movies like Bheja Fry. “I started to feel burnt out and was overcome with the need to do something more tangible. As an NID student I always wanted to work with clothes, and in maternity, I found my niche,” Ruchi says.
While Comfy Mommy has managed to maintain a lean team, Ruchi realises that this will have to grow as demand increases, for instance, the constant requests for cool maternity pants and tees.
We’ll be expecting these real soon.
