Soft pajamas, blue suede shoes, and heart shaped clips that you might like, are on ground level of the newly opened Label Life store, ready for the taking right when you walk in. All purchases that remind you of domestic chores are down in the basement, out of sight and accessible only by an eggshell spiral staircase.
Okay, so let’s take it from the top then.
It is indeed worthy of a Darwin chart, the evolution of this Label, from a hairy hunchback digital store to a prettier e-version and now to its (first) brick and mortar avatar – standing straight and capable of starting fires; you’ll see in the dress section.
The store itself is all marble - much like its swirly new collection of jars - with brass trimmings, lilac couches, changing rooms draped with velvet curtains and the token Kinfolk magazine casually lying around. If the brand has celebrity ambassadors, they are not plastered all over the store, allowing its wares to be in the spotlight.
Now for the shopping. In the interest of your self care ritual, go straight to the last rack where sublime pajamas, nightshirts, shorts and cami sets in marbled prints (green and grey) loll about. Based on softness and proximity, next in line seem to be their cousins - grey-blue jersey fabric pants, tops and throw-overs that would be great on flights.
Skip hard white denim outfits and trifle through the polka dotted rack for a black and white ruffled top. Other cart sweethearts include a pair of sky blue linen paints cinched at the waist; an ice-cream truck pink dress, striped with a cut-away back; and a blush coloured jumpsuit. Other dresses seem awkward, cut wise, and are best avoided.

Blue Suede Shoes…
…is what we picked out from the footwear shelves that are very Zara-esque, in that you’ll find a cool, sturdy pair of tan loafers here, but you will also see heels that you know won’t make it past the next sangeet you are invited to. Their slides are cute too. Chilling in a bowl nearby and very easy to miss are adorable heart shaped brass hair-clips and beaded and tassel earrings.
The few stray bags don’t deserve your attention, but a pink version will remind you of a cupcake, which is good because you are now going down to the basement, where the pastel cake stands are. If bar and kitchenware is tough to ship – so we’re told at the store- we really hope to see more home stuff at this store, which is the main reason we visit TheLabelLife.com: waffled bath towels, pink floor cushions, granite cheese platters, rainbow coloured dessert spoons. For now, it’s just the cake stands plus some vases which will remind you that like Mrs Dalloway, you need to buy the flowers yourself. It was on your to-do list, remember?
Getting there: The Label Life, ground floor, Gambs Building, main Linking Road, next to National College, Bandra (W), Rs 1,800 for blue suede block heels, Rs 1,490 for a vase.
Accessibility: A few stairs off the main road with no ramp.
