On a wall past the staircase bannister, look for the letter V covered in faux grass and let it mean vacation. Open your fist, here’s some sand. Wear your flip flops and come with us for a stroll around Peacock Life, Bandra’s new home store, where we’re tagging everything you’ll need for a holiday, beginning with a set of oars. They’re functional and look fantastic, feeling instantly like a prop in The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou, or fitting just above the bed in your nautical themed room. Also sea attached the life raft that will take you far, far away from 2016 as soon as possible.
Next? A reproduction of a retro red Coca-Cola icebox, the element that your Instagram art director would love to have for your next beach shot. Rice paper lanterns to light up your Vietnam holiday; little birds that turned to stone by a curse word from your last cabin trip; a glass pumpkin from Halloween just past; and finally, a whole rooftop filled with garden ornaments and furniture that your bum knows from somewhere, perhaps that Shillong garden where you drank tea last summer. Yes, V is for vacation and we really, really need one, and reminders of it are all over Peacock Life.

But V is also for vintage and if that’s your train of thought, tour the other two floors (yes, its spread over three levels) for steel almirahs with cutwork flowers, brass lanterns and room partitions that are probably brand new, but look ancient because someone whispered in their ears that older means wiser.
Despite the sand in our shoes and old-world charm in our hearts, we will continue to hold a grudge against some parts of this store: pop-art cabinets; use of the word ‘quirky’ on tags attached to certain objects; cushions with no personality; and bar stools we’ve seen before.
Maybe V really is for Vendetta. V’ll see.
Getting there: Peacock Life, Bandra 190, Waterfield Road, Bandra (W), Rs 2,500 for a single decorative oar, Rs 1,650 for a glass pumpkin; Rs 4,000 for Coca-Cola ice box.
