Even making an inquiry at Bandra’s new DivaYoga studio requires that you be fit – you must climb two flights of tall steps in an old walk-up building to get there, so start stretching today. After all, you wouldn't want your panting to drown out the babbling brook sound piped into the swanky reception area, would you? People, don’t make us look bad.

Diva unfurls like a yoga mat in Bandra this week – it officially opens on October 12 – and is the first of 15 studios that will take over the city in 2018. Aptly named as it's thought up by actor and film producer Malaika Arora along with entrepreneur Sarvesh Shashi, the founder of Zorba, DivaYoga puts the truth in the adjective we know will be used in their press release soon - “state-of-the-art”.

Hidden beneath cosmetic and cosmic signs (neon scrawls spelling out ‘aspire’, ‘goddess’, ‘believe’ are scattered across the studio), you will find well trained teachers; two beautiful studios equipped with props, mats and aerial  yoga silks hooked to the ceiling; and a plush locker room + shower that could very well be plucked out of a five star hotel.

Classes are scheduled from Monday to Saturday, eight slots a day, and cover different schools of yoga including Hatha, Vinyasa and Ashtanga; plus others they’ve labeled Belt Yoga (for flexibility), Wheel Yoga (for balance), Mindfulness (which focuses on breathing exercises and meditation), Yoga Dance; and sessions designed to help you shed pounds, sculpt your arms, and sweat in a very hot room. See full schedule here.

At the end, we are shown to the Aspire room, where a body composition analyser by InBody, a company that has worked on wellness programs with NASA, offers to tell us all about our post-Goa-vacation-bodies and the beer that is currently flowing through our veins. We politely decline. The panting that killed the babbling brook was bad enough.

Getting there: 2nd floor, Mangalore Milagres building, above Vijaya Bank and opposite Holy Family Hospital, Hill Road, Bandra (W), call 7718007001. Sign up before October 12 launch day and get special prices - Rs 6,000 for 12 sessions; Rs 750 for a single session. Visit divayoga.com for more details and schedule.
