Dear reader, welcome to January 2020. It's time to put away the party and pick up your pen. Preferably in the company of Professor Rohit Goel, who has taught writing courses (and more) atUniversity of Chicago, Sciences Po Paris and Menton, the American University of Beirut, and Jnanapravaha Mumbai.
In case you missed our last post, Professor Goel runs the Bombay Institute for Critical Analysis and Research (BICAR) in Colaba, where you can take courses on writing, art, philosophy, and history. BICAR's first course of the year will help us all strike off an important 2020 goal - learn to write well.
Pen Pals: What To Expect At The Course
Beginning on January 8 - registrations are now open - 'WRITE: Style' is an 8 session course which promises its participants that "writing stylistically will become second nature". Professor Goel will employ rigorous in-class slides and drills to inculcate the course's Six Principles of Style Model: Audience, Action, Character, Clarity, Flow, and Voice. The quality of this workshop has been affirmed not only by student testimonials, but also by CORPU, an online educational platform that grew out of the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania, which has purchased the course.
Here's the great thing about it: the course focuses on writing form and flair irrespective of the content, which means that it isn't just for journalists or budding authors. Suits, academics, curators, PR professionals and students can (and should) sign up too.
Those looking for a deeper commitment, know this: 'WRITE: Style' is the first in a series of three workshops planned for this year. 'WRITE: Argument'(8 sessions) begins in February 2020; and 'WRITE: Logic'(8 sessions) starts in April 2020.
Bonus: Professor Goel has developed a diagnostic tool, a "Style Quotient," which will allow participants to monitor their progress.
Told you this was a class apart!
