A candyfloss-coloured blouse, a fishtail braid and a smokey voice went into the making of this very special late-night recording at Spine studios. Our reader on this episode is Vidya Balan, award-winning actor and star of the forthcoming Begum Jaan, in cinemas next Friday, April 14 onwards. (See the scorching trailer here.)

Vidya kicks off this episode with a reading from Faiz Ahmad Faiz’ 'Subh-e-Azadi,' sometimes known as ‘Dawn Of Freedom,’ or 'This Is Not That Dawn,' a Partition poem that needs no introduction. (Read Agha Shahid Ali’s English translation here.)

Next, she gives us a glimpse of Abraham Lincoln as he appears in George Saunders’ breathtaking Lincoln In The Bardo.

She concludes with a dream of space, love and a gentler future from Moonglow by Michael Chabon.
