Call your Cal friends and tell them to follow the aromatic scent of Soto Ayam Lamongan to Fort Knox on Camac Street.
This will lead them to The Fatty Bao, a trendy Asian Gastrobar from the Olive Group, also in Bangalore, Mumbai and Delhi that’s opening a year after its sister concern Monkey Bar’s successful Kolkata debut. More Joy for the City!
At The Fatty Bao, you can expect a 75-seater restaurant and bar with a vibrant, modern take on Asian design and a menu inspired by Japan’s izakayas and noodleshops.
The kitchen offers Asia’s diverse culinary repertoire, using fresh ingredients to send out constellations of addictive small plates to go with the bartenders’ specials. These include a new addition of pre-batched drinks that employ unique teas and Asian ingredients to create stellar cocktail mixes. Other hip sips include sakes and a long wine list.
Get one of everything and dig into their signature baos, expertly rolled sushi, chargrilled Robatayaki skewers, hearty bowls of ramen. Our picks from the menu: Cold Green Tea Noodle Salad; Uramaki Sushis in a variety of flavours; fried fish bao, which is tempura Bhetki with Sriracha mayo and pickled cucumber; duck nachos; a variety of gyoza; Indonesian-style Soto Ayam Lamongan ramen; and The Fatty Bao PB&J – twice cooked imported pork belly with miso mustard jam.
For dessert, new treats include, among many, a gorgeous Fried Miso Apple Tart and an eggless and sugar-free Kaffir Lime Panna Cotta with almond crumble, raspberry caviar, coconut and lime sorbet.
The Fatty Bao offers four distinct seating options and a bar area (you’ll find us perched here), which makes it a great place for a quick lunch, a hot date, or a party of everyone you know for several rounds of drinks.
Welcome to your new home, Fatty!
