Over 540 guests, staff and well-wishers from across the world raised 7.3 lakhs for The Bombay Canteen’s supporting charities through the annual Independence Day Dawaat. Didn’t get to pitch in the last few times? You can now. Flag this story to know how.
On August 15, 2018, sign up for this incredible feast put together by Chef-Partner Thomas Zacharias and his team, served on banana leaves through a community style dining experience. You can pay what you wish, and your contribution will go towards Miracle Foundation India (a non-profit organization that brings life-changing care to children without homes - www.miraclefoundationindia.in).
Shaak It Up
On the menu is a constellation of regional dishes, including Kerala Kaya Ularthiyathu, Goan Kokum Dal and Bombay Maska Pav. But the bit that we’re most excited about is the regional specialties sourced from homes and kitchens of some of Bombay Canteen’s regular customers.
For instance, fashion designers Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla share a recipe from the Bohri community (Junglee Kheema), while you can dig into dishes prepared from celebrity chef and champion of regional Indian food Manish Mehrotra’s recipe for UP Sattu Kachori; stand up comedian Rohan Joshi’s recipe for Gujarati Vatana Muthai Shaak; industrialist Harsh Goenka’s Rajasthani specials (Shahi Khichdi); and Anirban Blah’s Meghalayan Khasi Black Sesame Chicken.
The meal will be elevated by a rainbow of unusual chutneys, washed down with aam panna from UP, and finished off with Lonavla Chocolate Fudge with Peanut Chikki and Tri Colour Barfi. We’ll salute to that.
In Case You Can’t Make Lunch
The children at Miracle Foundation have also sent in their Santa wish list - world maps to globes, science kits to sports equipment, nutritional meals to clothing - which you can access online here, and fund one or multiple items.
