You’d expect a mango menu in the summer, of course, but The Fatty Bao takes the fruit to unexpected places, setting it up with unlikely dates.

Take for instance the marriage of mango and black sesame sponge; or another one with cointreau. Visit any Fatty outpost until May 27, and grab the summer special drinks and dessert menu, which will take your taste buds from the streets of Thailand to the delicate dessert shops of Japan.

If you like your booze with fruit, get started with the Go Mango Merry, where the classic Bloody Mary, gets a makeover with raw mangoes replacing tomatoes, and a combination of vodka, peppers, jalapeno and tamarind. Next, jump s(h)ip to the shaken and stirred Tangotini, a classic martini dressed up in mango and kaffir lime, with a dash of Cointreau and bitters. Meanwhile, the Sangria is a mellow summer potion of wine infused with mango and peaches and a dash of rum. We’re betting our money on The Global Warmer, though, which brings together whisky and mangoes, with a bit of basil and lime. No aam drink, this. Virgins, a Mango Ice Tea and Fresh Mango Smoothies await.


At the other bar that uses sugar to get you high, desserts get an Asian twist this summer. We love the Mango Pudding with coconut ice cream, pistachio sponge, mango passion fruit gel and milk meringue, an interpretation of the popular Thai street food dessert of coconut and rice pudding with fresh mangoes. Or grasp at the many textures of the Mango Cremeux, featuring black sesame sponge, raspberry sorbet, green tea crumble, sesame nougatine, raspberry gel.
