February is carnival time in Goa, which means O Pedro is going to be at its festive best. Enter a parade of poee and prawns, calamari and coconut-y cocktails, better known as ‘Fat February At O Pedro’.
Apt title for their new brunch, which launches this weekend, (only for Feb 10 & 11, Feb 17 & 18 and Feb 24 & 25) from noon to 4 pm. On the agenda is live music on the first weekend, a ‘parade’ in the shop window and enough cocktails to make you believe you’re in Morjim. See event page here for more details.
In the kitchen, the lovely Chef Hussain will be seen wrestling with large mud crabs. While you wait for him to cook these in “secret spices”, order a portion of Kalamata Olive & Potato Frittata or Avocado Poee.
A procession of small and large plates at this carnival will include Choriz Chili Fry (baked eggs, Goan style sausage, onions and shoestring potatoes); a towering stack of crepes topped with salted caramel jaggery; Chilled Sea Bass Ceviche; Banana Leaf Steamed Rice and Garlic Thecha Rolls; Aunty Vishali’s Coconut Pancakes with sprouted Moong Rassa and Cucumber Salad. Yum!
Bar experiments have led to Dai 'Kairis' (Bacardi white rum, raw mango puree, lime, peppered with house-made spice mix); Pedro’s Peru Spritz (Martini Prosecco, Aperol, Guava Shrub and topped with soda); Chorice & Mary (vodka, pickle juice & choriz-infused bloody mary mix served with a crisp piece of bacon).
On your way out, grab a baked good: choose from black jaggery and cashew sticky buns; double coconut caramelized white chocolate muffins; and the all-time favorite chroiz pao.
Get on this (gravy) boat while there’s still room!
