Curvy never looked this good. There’s a new Fatty (Bao) in town, and Lower Parel’s suits are flocking to its big red tangram glass doors.

The design elements move away from the cutesy Fatty Bao vista to a more grown up version –geometric patterns, abstract Japanese art, brass lights and handmade Athangudi tiles. With seats for 70, The Fatty Bao at Kamala Mills houses a slick bar space in addition to the patio.

What To Eat

If you like small plates, then you’ll be delighted by what Chef Prashant has to offer. Look out for the smoked green apple, avocado and takuan sushi or the black rice sushi roll with scallops and miso. If you prefer nigiri, you’ll love the brie with pickled plum, tuna with tosazu sauce or the salmon with balsamic glaze. Besides the wide selection of dim sums and baos, other small plates include the fried calamari served with a Malaysian chilli sambal, scallops in shell with XO sauce, crisp Korean chicken served with a spiced mayonnaise and Chinese roast pork puffs. But if you want to get out of the shell, pick the all-new Fatty Oysters served raw with ponzu and Sriracha caviar. Now, isn’t that a pearl worth diving for!

Don’t forget to make place for large plates because The Fatty Bao’s lamb chops come with an Australian passport and Korean swag. These gochujang lamb chops are marinated in chilli paste and served with a spicy tamarind sauce and salad. For a taste of Indonesia, sample the Nasi Lemak, a shrimp and pandan-flavoured rice accompanied with hot fried chicken.

What To Drink

The Fatty Bao brings merrier new gifts to Lower Parel with a selection of its Root to Fruit cocktails. From garden to glass, the bartenders create the most refreshing cocktails using house-made syrups and different parts of plants. Flowers, seeds, leaves, roots, stems and even the pods are used in these cocktails. For the traditionalists, classic cocktails, an extensive wine list available by the glass and bottle, single malts and premium spirits are also served.

The meal must end with some new desserts like the Halo Halo, a deconstructed mix of jello, purple yam ice-cream, raspberry sorbet and coconut granita; or the Matcha tart with a liquid centre gurgling alongside your old favorite desserts from the menu. The buzzy red bar will keep you busy with the signature Root to Fruit cocktail collection, showing you exactly how summer should be done this year.

We’ll drink to that!
