Warming your hands and hearts this winter are Monkey Bar’s One Bowl meals. Brought out like personal bonfires, these will be on the menu until Jan 15th at Monkey Bars in Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore and Kolkata.

The bowls blend comfort food and nostalgia, with the gastropub’s chefs inspired by your moms, sending out bowls of rajma-rice and piping hot kadhis.

An ode to all things “nourishing and plentiful”, the One Bowl Winter menu features the home-style Rajma Bowl served with chilli pickle, papad, sirka onions, spicy yogurt, spinach pakoda, tawa aloo and rice; and Kadhi Chawal supported by karari bhindi, tawa aloo, radish salad, chutney, papad and ghee.

The options we’re most interested in are the Wild Mushroom Khichdi, slow-cooked mushrooms in creamy moong dal rice; and an elegant Kashmiri Yakhni paired with saffron pulao.Panch Phoron and Kasundi Maach come starring surmai cooked with Bengal’s famous kasundi mustard and served with gobindobhog rice; but the most festive flavours come from the spicy Goan Xacuti, a party-in-a-bowl  served with barnyard millets. Equally fiery is the Nagarjuna Inspired Chilli Chicken paired with Malabari parotta and plantain chips. International representation comes from the Moroccan Vegetable Tagine of mixed veggies, chickpeas, prunes, almonds and olives, served with an aromatic couscous; Seafood Linguine swimming with assorted fruits de mer; and fiery Korean Bibimbap made with gochujang steak and pink sticky rice, crowned with fried eggs. Like the sound of that? Other Asian influences can be found in the bowl of Sesame Teriyake Chicken perched on a bed of sticky rice kimchi and broad beans. There’s also Prawn Pad Thai Noodles where flat rice noodles are tossed with prawns, cashews and vegetables in a sweet sour sauce.

So how did the simian settle on these 12 bowls? The inspiration for each recipe comes from the chefs’, family kitchens or travels; focussing on combining traditional cooking with a spritely gastropub touch.

So pick your favourite bowl (or three) and sit around this delicious bonfire that’s waiting to soothe your soul and satiate your appetite.

Getting there: Till Jan 15, 2018 at Monkey Bar, Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai and Kolkata.
