Now old enough to vote + 1, Olive Bar & Kitchen celebrates 19 years in the business with two gifts - a new leader and a newer menu.
Say hello to chef Viraf Patel, who brings two decades of experience to Olive Bar & Kitchen, celebrating the restaurant's birthday with a spanking new menu that has a light-bright, global-local vibe.
Bring friends and get a table outside and let the Mumbai-Mediterranean vibe wash over you; or grab a seat at the bar where dinner is sure to turn into a dance party on most nights. But first, let's eat. Begin with bar snacks like Red Velvet Fried Chicken and Chorizo with Baby Potatoes, Beetroot Pastrami; and when winter comes around, order one of their hearty soups.
During our tastings, we grew quite f(r)ond of the Salads: favourites include the Chickpea and Black Bean; and the Braised Fennel, Baby Spinach, Orange and Grapefruit.
When you get to the appetizers, dear reader, here's an insider tip: order the Prawn and Calamari Ajillo, chef Viraf's signature dish that has travelled with him to the many kitchens where he has worked, a constantly evolving moveable feast. Other appetizers to look forward to includes Warm Skinny Asparagus; Purple Yam Gnocchi; and a Rare Seared Sushi Grade Tuna.
If you'd like to move over to mains, and you should, might we recommend the Seared Nile Perch for pescatarians; the Mushroom and Corn Baked Phyllo for herbivores and the Seared Hoisin Duck Breast for the meat lovers among you. Carb kids, please note the list of pastas and risottos as well.
And at the end, when it's time to order dessert, a gorgeous Spiced Prune Eton Mess will remind you that the holidays are in fact, right around the corner. Oh, and also ask after their zero waste cocktail menu.
