Hold Lady Baga’s new menu to your ear and you might just hear the sound of the ocean. This Goan restaurant at Lower Parel holds the promise of new dishes that are meant to evoke languid days at the beach.
Great for snacking on and sharing at the bar are the nibbles, which include Prawn Samosa; Calamari Frito; a tangy, spicy Vindaloo (chicken or pork); Pork Sorpotel; Chips with dips like spicy chicken kheema, and bacon & onion. Meanwhile, Goan staples get a fresh makeover and are presented in the form of Plantain & Date Tikki; Mutton Pan Rolls; and Green Masala Chops.
Main courses pay homage to Goan locals and their recipes; see Aubergine and Long Bean Ambotik; Chef Aloo's Prawn Curry; and Xacuti. Our favourite is the list of chargrilled dishes, reminiscent of beach bonfires: choose from crab, lobster, pomfret, king fish, snapper or the catch of the day, prepared in your favourite sauces; or you can also pick the meat (chicken, pork, lamb, buff), or seasonal veggies of your choice.
And let this experience end like all young summer romances on the beach do – with sea tousled hair and a sweet kiss from a boy holding Bebinca. Seriously, the Bebinca here is great.
