“Next Stop Kolkata” – three words every gourmand wants to hear. The street food from the City of Joy can now be accessed minus a plane ticket. Just head to Monkey Bar outpost in Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore or Kolkata from October 4 to 21, for Next Stop Kolkata, a virtual street food festival showcasing the best of Cal.

On the menu you will find everything from fish rolls to momos, guided by Kolkata based home-chef Iti Misra and Monkey Bar’s head chef Dheeraj Varma, who scoured the by-lanes and nondescript stalls to curate festive dishes that highlight the best of the city’s street food and present it with the quintessential Monkey twist of course!

You will love that the ethos of the menu – small plates, mains, cocktails - encapsulates the melting pot of people, cultures and cuisines that is unique to Kolkata.

Mission Momo

Begin your ‘trip’ with Monkey’s take on the Beadon Fish Roll, fillet of Kolkata Bhekti stuffed with curried shrimps, breaded and fried and served with Kasundi mustard spiked mayonnaise and ‘salaad’; Quintessential College Street Hing-er Kochuri, deep fried thin urad daal stuffed kochuris served with a spicy potato curry and sweet and sour red pumpkin; and Girish Park-er Shoitan Deem, an ode to the roadside tele-bhaja shops; Tibetan style Elgin Road Pork Momo; Tiretti Bazaar Prawn Dumpling, first served up by Chinese migrants in the 60s.

Mains feature super stars like Vivekanand Park Ghooghni, curried white peas topped with potato salli and onion; Esplanade’s Mughlai Porota with a spicy keema filling served with paanch-phoron baby potatoes; and Chitpur Road Chicken Rezala, a curry that is inspired by Awadhi flavours.

Cha Bar

And amidst these festivities, the bar refuses to be left out. Cleverly crafted Puchka Paani Capriojkas (with a squeeze of gondhoraj lebu); guava juice-spiked Piara Pearas; and Darjeeling tea-based Thaanda Chas will be sent out for you and your friends.

Cheers to that!
