If you must be marooned on an island, Rivers2Oceans (R20) is where you should wash up. This new fine dine sea-food restaurant by Zorawar Kalra & Co. (the makers of Pa Pa Ya, Masala Library and Farzi Café) will have you cooing alongside a sea of champagne, your conversation punctuated by delicate pearls of caviar.

Mumm’s The Word

Get a seat at the round bar with its gleaming marble counter top, while you sit across from a champagne glass pyramid on one side (they serve bubbly by the glass) and a beautiful open kitchen on the other, manned by a team of 28 young chefs.

This team has spent over a year researching ingredients and building the right channels to bring you produce from around the world – flown in fresh once a week – and the best that India has to offer. So Russian caviar shares menu space with Maharashtra mud crabs; and Goa’s mussels flex for Indonesian crustaceans. Ice beds display some of the produce (we love the high seating here) while sea urchins and corals and bubbles also jump on to the walls and glass dividers as part of the design element. The effect at lunch is crisp and golden, much like the third glass of bubbly you are currently on. At nighttime for dinner, the vibe is equally elegant, a quick way to forget you are inside a mall.

Chef’s Recommendations

As for your meal, the best way to get the chef’s recommendations is to opt for the 15-course tasting menu priced well at Rs 2,900. But it’s also fun, given the span and scale of the offerings, to go with a group of friends and try a cluster of dishes from the a la carte menu. The R2O team recommends the cold hamachi and caviar plate; cured salmon and tuna poke with seasonal greens; braised mussels with parsley butter; truffled red lobster, butter and leek broth; and the classic butter pepper garlic crabs. Also remember to order the flaky malabari parathas with soft shell crab served in Malabar curry.

Vegetarians in the group, don’t be disheartened; there’s plenty of (non) fish in the sea. Avocado sushi; mushroom & truffle pate; home made Corzetti, wild mushroom stuffed morels; green garlic rissoto and aubergine fritters, to name a few.

So come dive in to R20. You’re guaranteed to find more than one pearl in this oyster.
