The newly established Gluten Free Baking Co. in Bangalore has already amassed a wholesome fan following, genuine and aspiring gluten intolerants that can’t wait to order cupcakes and seed crackers with a superiority complex.
Founder Meher Randhawa has been gluten free since 2015, and this month, she made a business out of baking healthy breads, cupcakes, tea loaves and birthday cakes. She also customises her menu for vegan clients and when we meet her, is stewing over savoury baked goods and specials to fuel fitness goals.
With a ‘real’ chocolate chip cookie on stand by, we order banana bread, crackers, cupcakes and oatmeal cookies. You have to pick these up from Meher, and if you don’t mind that, the process is seamless (separate charges for delivery).

We return home to find that the seeded crackers are soggy - soundlessly chewy rather than bearing an acoustic bite; but oatmeal cookies with raisins are chunky, reminding us of summer afternoons spent drooling over Secret Seven’s snack stash.
Bake A Wish
But it’s the cupcakes that really shine here, wearing vanilla chocolate frosting hats and elaborate rose fondants. The frosting is sweetly indulgent, perfectly complimenting a cupcake made from quinoa flour. The glistening banana cinnamon bread of sorghum or jowar flour is dense, but with a little coaxing in the microwave, it warms up nicely. PS: friends tell us that Meher’s quinoa flour birthday cake is the best gift for the gluten-free love of your life.
Don’t forget the candles!
