If like us, your perfect weekend includes lounging in a soft t-shirt, reading a cool children’s book or a Pulitzer Prize winning novel – this post is for you. Bonus: Put on cool pants, and said t-shirt can be worn to your Saturday night plans too. Trust us, you’ll be the best-dressed person there.

We’re talking, of course, about the new Human > Gender t-shirt by MIXX, which popped up all over Fashion Week recently, paired by both boys and girls with a pair of dusky corduroy pants, black culottes, under a pink bra and a black moto jacket. Our very own Scouter wore it with a velvet skirt dripping crystals – ooh, shiny!

Available in all sizes and a gender-neutral cut, the t-shirt is made from soft pink jersey – boys, before you balk, know that the colour doesn’t feel too girly at all. “More guys than girls have been wearing the shirt,” says Ruchika Parab, one of the two founders at MIXX. “We wanted to embrace pink because it’s such a loaded colour, and find a way to make it gender neutral.” The messaging on the shirt – Gender > Human – is also an evolution from MIXX’s first set of Girls Equal Boys tees, released earlier this year (read more about them here).

The t-shirt is available online and comes with a gorgeously shot zine, in case you need styling ideas. Also available are MIXX’s sassy alt-Love Cards, and plans are underfoot for a whole range of merchandise, including tote bags, patches and DIY kits. MIXX is also collaborating with the FC Goa football club on t-shirts encouraging women in sports. Look out for these late next month.

But for now, let’s get back to your weekend plans; find below a list of gender-bending books recommended by Ruchi, for your reading pleasure:

Middlesex, Jeffrey Eugenides: This Pulitzer Prize winning novel is a great exploration of history and personal identity.

Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit, Jeanette Winterson: A story of rebellion and self-liberation, this novel won the Whitbread Award For A First Novel in 1985.

The Boy In The Dress, David Walliams: A gender-bending kids book about a kid who loves football and dressing up in girls’ clothes.

Happy reading!
