We were actually looking forward to lunch as we rummaged through World In A Box’s extensive health-food menu, pleased enough by the prospect of salad, smoothie and a  sandwich of tzatziki and avocado to ignore the dissonant signs of finding biryani and Thai curry on the list. We even promised ourselves that we’d awake in time for World’s breakfast over the weekend, served from 8AM to 12 PM, a promising selection of pancakes, parfaits, oats and omelettes.

Having sampled their fare, we suggest you just sleep in.

We found some solace in a cold, citrusy couscous, watermelon, feta, walnut, chickpea, and papaya salad, but despite its many ingredients, missed the mango we had been promised alongside.

Despite living close by, our lunch order didn’t arrive for over an hour, and when it did, featured a wrong sandwich and a belligerent delivery guy. Anti-Oxidant Very Berry Smoothie turned out to be a concoction from health-hell, unpleasantly milky and bitter with honey; a pasta salad was dressed in unsalvageable bland yogurt dressing, mixed in with lettuce and cherry tomatoes. This too, we abandoned.

We found some solace in a cold, citrusy couscous, watermelon, feta, walnut, chickpea, and papaya salad, but despite its many ingredients, missed the mango we had been promised alongside. Our final frontier was to be a Chipotle Chicken And Mushroom sandwich, which was swapped out by mistake for a cheese, zucchini, and carrot version that was surprisingly good, built on pillowy focaccia and the only satisfying part of our lunch.

Sitting amongst the half-eaten plant-food wreckage of our lunch and still woefully hungry, we made ourselves a promise: tonight, we’re going out for pizza.
