Blown, the newest addition to Bengaluru’s slow-blooming swanky salon scene in Bengaluru, blows its competition out of the water thanks to a simple innovation — the addition of a wine bar. Strategically located near UB City, it targets ladies looking to put their feet up and hair curlers in after an afternoon of heavy lifting at the mall. A day spa this is not, however — its vibe is so upbeat and the cocktails so potent, you’ll pull your dancing shoes on to sail right back out for a night on the town. (Ask nicely, and Blown might even watch your shopping bags from Le Creuset overnight.)

Fittingly in a neighbourhood named after a Mallya, the core services here are booze and blowouts. If you’re one of those people with perfect hair and has never known the need of a good blow dry, they will lure you in with mani-pedis with O.P.I. nail art, and colour treatments with Sebastian - just what a little mermaid needs when she’s drinking like a fish.

Bordeaux-line

Blown is run by Bhandary sisters Meghna and Menaka. Its wine menu is the brainchild of Meghna, who puts her five years of experience in the family business, importing French wines, to good use. Colour us burgundy, please. Aside from France’s finest, the list here also includes Canadian vegan and ice wines, all of which you can drink, as well as purchase by the bottle.

The salon’s menu offers a handful of cocktails, of which we specially recommend the Pompoms, a rosemary and pomegranate number. Your ‘do may or may not survive the next stiff breeze, but the effects of this drink certainly will. While you wait for a chair, opt for an hors d'oeuvres platter of fruit, cheese, olives, breadsticks and in the case of the non-vegetarian platter, cold cuts.

If you’re a slow drinker, you might worry, like we did, that the duration of a blow-dry is not enough time to drink a cocktail, but rest assured that the service is laid back and relaxed enough for any girl of spirit to knock back not one, but two cocktails while getting dolled up. Shake your Pompoms, please.

Getting there: G1, Embassy Chambers, Vittal Mallya Road, Bengaluru, 9 am to 10 pm every day, call 8310686878. Rs 2,100 for a blowout, two cocktails and a non-veg platter.
