If you’ve stopped doing groceries in the wake of Swiggy – morning dosa from the neighbourhood darshini delivered, weekend burger binge sent over – the food ordering app’s new delivery kitchen might make you fire your dabbawalla.

This new circle of life you’re about to enter involves one single round dish that can satisfy all your lunch and dinner cravings. Gather around The Bowl Company, Swiggy’s new “cloud kitchen” at Koramangala where hearty single bowl meals are assembled and wheeled to homes and offices in the neighbourhood. The food is sourced from caterers and vendors who don’t have restaurant fronts, but oddly, the makers are not marked on the dishes, which are simply tagged as The Bowl Company.

Listed under best sellers are larger meals drawing inspiration from India, South East Asia and Italy, with a focus on comfort food to include heaps of chawal and coils of noodles.

Friends in Koramangala, this is pretty neat. Friends elsewhere, The Bowl Company is opening four new kitchens across the city soon so hold tight. We ordered our own cosmic meal this past weekend, with bowls of all shapes and sizes orbiting our living room, some as big as Jupiter, another as hot as Mercury, and one as hopeless and gloomy as our very own Earth.

Let’s begin with the Peri Peri chicken bowl, curried pieces of chicken laid on a bed of fried rice where kernels of sweet corn and clouds of egg blunt the heat from the meat. A repeat order for dinner, please!

Listed under best sellers are larger meals drawing inspiration from India, South East Asia and Italy, with a focus on comfort food to include heaps of chawal and coils of noodles.

Our order of Tuscan spaghetti was a clear winner at the table. The sizeable portion, packed with minced lamb and sans overwhelming cheese is exactly what we will reach out for on our next carb binge (the rajma-chawal bowl sounded great too). Teriyaki chicken with noodles, though a tad oily, greatly elevates boring hakka with a nuanced, sweet and tangy sauce; and Sriracha paneer rice is marginally spicy with a taste you will forget as soon as you step out of your office cafeteria.

Cat and Mousse Game

Our last planet is inhabited by dessert, a small Neptune-cold bowl of triple chocolate mousse, walnut brownie and salted caramel cracker that updates the dish from 1999 to 2017. In fact, without the cracker, the fate of our dessert would be much like Pluto’s: Once loved, but ultimately abandoned.

Getting there: The Bowl Company delivers only in Koramangala at the moment. Place an order on the Swiggy app or log on to their website here on https://www.swiggy.com/bangalore . A meal for three costs approximately Rs 1,100.
