Every dish at Roosters - Soul Kitchen is a mini vacation to a coastal strip. Earthy crab rasam s(h)ips you straight to a Mangalorean beach shack, and coconut laced prawns are as zesty as our memories of a recent surf trip to Varkala.

So don't forget your bathing suit, when you swim on down to Roosters where Paul Fernandes' art works surround diners waiting to get on their flights.

A beaming Bangalore biker, Sathish Thomas, is the one who will take you places, recommending prawns and pies, curries and crabs.

Curry Leafing On A Jet Plane

The bar only serves draught beer (full service stars at the end of the month) which goes great with curry leaf chicken, a cowering version of the spicy Andhra dish, but delicious nonetheless. Prawn masala is laced with coconut and showered with lime; and earthy rasam soup with crumbling pieces of crab should be served by the pitcher. Both dishes, top notch.

Stew Ton Tomato

If there is a live band, we don't notice. But they return - they're called Jukebox - after our first course is polished off, to play CCR’s Have You Ever Seen The Rain. And what goes better with rain than appam and lamb stew? The appams are too doughy, robbing us of light bites that should have been dunked into this aromatic broth and wrapped around tender pieces of lamb. At the end, Sathish emerges from the kitchen with his famous peppery Coorg Pandi Curry made beautifully tangy with the addition of country vinegar.

When dessert arrives we know who stole the appams' lightness. Airy Tosca cake is buttery and tart apple pie crumbles when tapped, revealing its shiny insides.

Yes fellow swimmers, we're t(r)ipping well at the end of this meal.

Getting there: 39, 80 Feet Road, Indiranagar, call 08049653239. A meal for two without drinks costs approximately Rs 2200. The band Jukebox performs at Roosters on Saturday nights.

Accessibility: A flight of stairs leads to the first floor entrance and seating. Valet parking available.
